Color- Very natural. Close to a deep green with some tendencies towards gold. Some haziness is preventing a 5.

Louche- Gets cloudy really quickly and is quite thick until the louche is finished. I couldn’t see any oil trails and such but my lighting was kinda dark too.

Aroma- Essences of sweet anise and mint. It reminds me of mint gum. Some hints of tropical fruit and powdery overtones add some complexity.

Flavor- Great mixture of anise and tropical fruit notes right away. Wormwood towards the back of the tongue is paired with mint. That is a very nice combination. The mouth feel is pretty decent as well.

Finish- Fruity anise lingers for a long time. Wormwood bitterness sets in and again is paired with mint. Really quality finish.

Overall- Extremely drinkable absinthe. Very solid in all areas. It misses the “wow” factor but would be great as a “go-to” addition to the cabinet. A great summer absinthe as others here have stated. I’m thinking the mint notes may make this perfect to adding to a mojito? The price is right on this absinthe as well. Terrific value.

Notes- Minor complaint but I agree regarding the wax covering. It took me a while to chisel off the wax using a steak knife…. I just wanna drink it!

Color: Deeply colored, very natural. Slightly more yellow than green, with an impressively dark tint.

Louche: Louched fairly thickly with pretty gold and pale blueish tones, ending with a creamy, mustardy color. Nicely opaque, definitely a interesting color...near turquoise in parts.

Aroma: The scent practically jumps out of the bottle, room-filling when poured but greatly lessened when water was added. Some faint anise and bitter notes, but mostly sweet and vanilla scented.

Flavor: I feel like the wormwood in this is what's been missing in my life all this time. Wonderfully bitter and warm, quite sweet with a hint of a sour, citrus edge.

Finish: The finish more than makes up for the lack of balance in the flavor. The taste finally rounds out, evolving into something very, very tasty. If I went too long without taking another drink, I found myself wondering, "why do I have this delicious flavor in my mouth" and then remembered I had a glass to finish.

Overall: This absinthe is delicious, but balanced it is not. I've found that it also has a very small window for tasting just right...it's very easy to overwater. I think I settled on what was very nearly a 1:3.5 ratio.

Color: Obsello starts with a natural green color that is strong and solid. The color may be a bit on the yellow side.

Louche: This Spanish absinthe louches with a milky swirl and no oil trails. There is a blueish hue to the whiter parts of the louche which I couldn't figure out. The overall louche settles evenly, but a bit quickly.

Aroma: This absinthe filled the room quickly just upon opening the bottle. After water is added the wormwood really starts to stand out. The aroma of Obsello is still a bit strong even with water added. There are some other herbs noticeable if you can get past the standouts of anise and wormwood.

Flavor: The grape spirits leave Obsello naturally sweet with no sugar needed at all. The traditional big three herbs of anise, fennel, and wormwood are out in force, although some other herbs are just a little noticeable. This is an extremely pleasant drink but not as complex as I would like my absinthe. There is a little bite at first with a 1:4 ratio, but experimenting with other ratios left this too light or too strong for my taste, but not drastically different.

Finish: The other herbs of this drink come out just a bit more during the finish but not enough to really make things more complex. The finish sweetens up as well, maybe too much. My tounge felt pleasingly warm and barely numb.

Overall: Obsello is wonderful and would be great for a sweet-absinthe occasion. I would prefer more complexity, slower louche, a tad less aroma, and maybe less of a sweet rush in the finish.

This review is based on a sample from the same Spanish bottle as Dr. Love's review.

Color: natural and elegant, but perhaps a bit subdued. Clear of sediment though, and pleasing to the eye.

Louche: almost as soon as I started dripping chilled water into my glass the louche began to build. Starting in the depths of the glass and reaching up quickly, the louche clouded up beautifully but quickly. Those who enjoy a prolonged louche will be disappointed.

Aroma: I am anosmic, so I can not comment on this facet, but since I have to give it some rating I have borrowed Dr. Love's choice of a 4.

Flavor: Very creamy indeed and, as noted bt Dr. Love, there is certainly a vanilla flavor up front. This is replaced by a spicy anise flavor that outlasts any other subtle mint or wormwood flavors. Mint was in no way overpowering in my sample and I might have overlooked it if I hadn't been looking specifically for it.

Finish: perhaps too quick, but clean and refreshing in a way that seemed well planned to me. This is why I titled this review as I did; the finish is perfect for a humid nights. There is pleasant numbing of the tongue, but also that lingering spiciness.

Overall: as my first Absenta that was not an oil mix, I found Obsello to be an interesting variation on Absinthe and a tasty treat. If I could change one aspect it would be to increase the wormwood to balance the flavor slightly, but this is a minor quibble. I recommend it and hope it is available in the U.S. very soon.

All tastings from a bottle opened four months ago, some glasses sugared, some without. All are carafe pours.

Color: While not unattractive, it doesn't seem entirely correct to me. It's more on the yellow side of things, with peridot as an accent, instead of the other way around. If there were more peridot, this would reach a 4.

Louche: Some gradients very early on, then some fun, stormy billows with a yellowish line sticking around until a little over 1:1. It almost missed a 4 because it was done so soon.

Aroma: I really like the aroma of Obsello. It has a different set of scents than I'm used to, this being my first absenta. I smell the mint, vanilla, and slight citrus that others have noted, in addition to the usual suspects.

Flavor: This has a light, clean flavor, with wormwood dialed back a little. As noted in other reviews, there is mint here, though it is subtle and adds another dimension.

Finish: The overall flavor doesn't linger long, but there is a hint of bitterness beckoning another sip. Only a tiny amount of numbing can be felt. Another category that just barely made it to a 4.

Overall: I enjoy drinking this absinthe and I find the flavor very pleasing. If this flavor profile has similarities with some other absentas, my curiosity has been piqued!
