I like this absinthe very much. The affordability of it, the flavor, the base, everything.

Straight from the bottle the color is a very deep green, stemmy or leaf like green-leaves that have been on a tree all summer long type green, dark and aged. Very nice! Clearly a verte when in an absinthe glass.

The louche is quick forming, at about 1:1 ratio. I always get a little weary with quick louches as they seem to dissipate before 4:1 or 5:1 ratios, but this louche holds and is nice and thick, but not too thick.

The straight aroma without water added is nicely alcoholic, like perfume, not harsh, but sweet and aromatic, herbal and grassy. Not like a freshly cut lawn, but like a field after an afternoon rainstorm. After water it is subdued and the sweeter notes open up. Very nice, very refreshing and relaxing!

The flavor is an odd mix. Wormwood, lemon, anise, some vanilla undertones are there, but they're almost all overpowered by a very floral rose like flavor that comes in from the back and dominates the finish. For me, it's very similar to the dominant flavor in Germain-Robin's absinthe blanche. I have no idea what this flavor is, perhaps vanilla, perhaps lemon verbena or rose-geranium. It's a mellowing and very floral flavor. It's almost too much and almost dominates all of the other flavors, and could easily have done so had there been a little more, but it is just enough to be noticed without demanding attention.

The finish begins with the receding mystery floral flavor, and what lingers is a pleasant lemon/wormwood mix. The characteristics of the wormwood are all the right ones, pleasantly tangy but not bitter. The lemony like finish that exists is also nice but not overly acidic. There are some earthy undertones in the back of the mouth that I think are lingering from the mystery floral/rose geranium like flavor.

Overall, this is a great absinthe, great quality and consistency for the price. The flavor is a little unbalanced, but I like that in the occasional absinthe, and the flavor profile of this absinthe is quite nice. I would hardly change it at all.

Color: Obsello starts with a natural green color that is strong and solid. The color may be a bit on the yellow side.

Louche: This Spanish absinthe louches with a milky swirl and no oil trails. There is a blueish hue to the whiter parts of the louche which I couldn't figure out. The overall louche settles evenly, but a bit quickly.

Aroma: This absinthe filled the room quickly just upon opening the bottle. After water is added the wormwood really starts to stand out. The aroma of Obsello is still a bit strong even with water added. There are some other herbs noticeable if you can get past the standouts of anise and wormwood.

Flavor: The grape spirits leave Obsello naturally sweet with no sugar needed at all. The traditional big three herbs of anise, fennel, and wormwood are out in force, although some other herbs are just a little noticeable. This is an extremely pleasant drink but not as complex as I would like my absinthe. There is a little bite at first with a 1:4 ratio, but experimenting with other ratios left this too light or too strong for my taste, but not drastically different.

Finish: The other herbs of this drink come out just a bit more during the finish but not enough to really make things more complex. The finish sweetens up as well, maybe too much. My tounge felt pleasingly warm and barely numb.

Overall: Obsello is wonderful and would be great for a sweet-absinthe occasion. I would prefer more complexity, slower louche, a tad less aroma, and maybe less of a sweet rush in the finish.

Color: Deeply colored, very natural. Slightly more yellow than green, with an impressively dark tint.

Louche: Louched fairly thickly with pretty gold and pale blueish tones, ending with a creamy, mustardy color. Nicely opaque, definitely a interesting color...near turquoise in parts.

Aroma: The scent practically jumps out of the bottle, room-filling when poured but greatly lessened when water was added. Some faint anise and bitter notes, but mostly sweet and vanilla scented.

Flavor: I feel like the wormwood in this is what's been missing in my life all this time. Wonderfully bitter and warm, quite sweet with a hint of a sour, citrus edge.

Finish: The finish more than makes up for the lack of balance in the flavor. The taste finally rounds out, evolving into something very, very tasty. If I went too long without taking another drink, I found myself wondering, "why do I have this delicious flavor in my mouth" and then remembered I had a glass to finish.

Overall: This absinthe is delicious, but balanced it is not. I've found that it also has a very small window for tasting just right...it's very easy to overwater. I think I settled on what was very nearly a 1:3.5 ratio.

Color: Nice dark olivey green. Perfectly clear and natural looking.

Louche: Louche came on very fast but was thick and dense. Amber and gold highlights with light olive green. The liquid in the glass now looks thick and creamy just like in the old pictures. 4
Aroma: Lemony and floral. Minty spice. Anise is very present but not overpowering. Very citrusy and unique.

Flavor: Right off the bat its mint and lemon. Very refreshing but perhaps a bit overpowering. Anise is there but wormwood is difficult to detect. To me wormwood has a slight mentholated with mild bitterness flavor so the mint could be masking the wormwood. There is another flavor in there that is difficult to put my finger on. It reminds me of Agwa a coca leaf liqueur and perhaps not too far off from tea. It’s not a bad flavour just untraditional for an absinthe. It tastes very good but I will give it a 3 due to the fact that mint and lemon are the predominant flavours.

Finish: This is where the wormwood shows up. Finish is light (a bit thin perhaps) but also smooth, fresh and crisp. Slight bitterness from the wormwood and slight tongue numbing from the anise. The bitterness and mint linger for a while but not in an unpleasant way. A very good finish overall. Smooth, fresh and crisp.

Overall: This is one of best absinthes to come out of Spain. It is distilled from grape spirits and is naturally coloured. Compared to other authentic absinthes it has a very unique flavour profile. It is very refreshing. A perfect absinthe for sitting outside in the early evening of a hot summer day. I could also see this being used in cocktails that call for mint or mint liqueur. I want to give some extra points here for the value of this absinthe. For the money it is an excellent absinthe. Even someone with a college budget could afford to always have a bottle on hand.

Color: A medium yellow with a slight touch of green, but was just a bit hazy.
Revist: after half a year, it still has a lot of haze, and simply is not clear enough pre-louche. Louched, the color is quite nice. I'd have rated the color higher were it not cloudy neat.

Louche: It formed quickly and evenly. There was nice clouding as it built, and the final result was pretty and opalescent.

Aroma: Powerful sweet anise, and a flowery minty herbal profile. Very nice. Perhaps the highlight of this absinthe.

Flavor. Crisp and clean. A light dryness that is quite enjoyable. The Grape base has a light brandy-like quality that is tempered nicely by the trinity, which is well balanced.
I like it a lot, and it is a different take on absinthe than the French and Swiss styles. I hope to sample more Spanish absentas.

Finish: Nice and clean. All the elements roll around, tingle lightly, wrap themselves in a silkiness then fade to a light spicy citrus, always with the kiss of grape base in there.

I plan to keep it in stock in my arsenal. It is a solid absinthe, refreshing and tasty!
