Hi everyone!
I've been using this site as a resource for quite some time now as I am learning about Absinthe - and I thought I would finally go ahead and create an account!

I'm a bit of an absinthe newbie still... but I bought my first few bottles of Pernod in 2005 from a mail order place in Spain, later I got some LaFee from another European distributor... an I'm learning now that I apparently started out with garbage and it is amazing I came back for more! At the time I didn't think it was bad though.

I've been working my way through the US available stuff lately after taking a couple of years off of buying it (expensive to buy and ship from Europe). It was a nice surprise to learn that I could buy "real" absinthe right down the street!

So far I have tried/own: Lucid, Absente (the fake one), Absente Grande, Mansinthe, le Tourment Verte (mouthwash? Thank god I only bought the mini bottle!), and just picked up a bottle of Kübler while on vacation in Florida. I know I haven't really made it into the "good stuff" yet, but I've been just buying what I can get locally except the Mansinthe that I ordered. I've got my eyes on Pacifique and Obsello as my next 2 to try.

Anyway... Great site, and thanks for having me!

Welcome Aaron abs-cheers.gif

Your absinthe cherry-popping wasn't that bad.... At least Pernod and LaFee are real absinthes! although not good ones. Most of us started off with Hill's or worse.

abs-cheers.gif Greetings, PTAaron, we're glad you decided to take the plunge...as far as your absinthe experience, it's all up from here. (Careful on the highway, I am very familiar with that drive!)

Thanks again everyone! Made it safely home... and was happy to find it is almost warm here!

Being a geek - I took a quick camera phone pic of my collection after adding the new bottle:

I thought the Crystal Head vodka bottle added a nice touch. ... Ignore the bottle of gray goose, that's my wife's side of the cabinet wink.gif

Thanks again everyone!

A pretty decent start for sure. The Crystal Head looks like it has a burning candle on top. I know it isn't but my first impression says it is.

Thanks for the pic, abs-cheers.gif

"The good stuff" is mostly a matter of preference, and as you will come to see, high cost does not necessarily dictate quality. Not that it's important, or that I know from personal experience, but I believe Pernod was available in the states in '05 being a substitute and not a real absinthe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... and hey, I'd prefer the Grey Goose to the cool looking skull vodka, if I drank vodka regularly. So your wife's tastes can't be all bad. wink.gif

edit: Oh wait it was Absente not Pernod.

Thanks for the input on that. I've been reading a lot of reviews - and it looks like there are quite a few decent drinks out there for really affordable prices! Less than I spent on that first bottle of Pernod for sure!

I agree on the Grey Goose... I just like the bottle that Crystal Head comes in wink.gif

Haha! That's because of the high quality of the cell phone picture wink.gif

I have to admit, I'm a fan of that bottle as well...

As am I. Do you think they sold a bunch as a result of the the last Indy Jones movie?
